Lastly, there are 60 games in my library still not tested by balbe, but those don't get listed unlike the others so I can't say anthing on those. I played 10 of those, with 8 playing fine, and the other 2 being thief 1 and 2 and needing tfix before they worked properly(but even on windows you'd use tfix anyway). Out of those 105 I remember playing 21, 18 of which worked properly without fiddling on my part, 2 required switching form the linux to the windows version (you just go to the game's properties on steam) and the last one wouldn't play cut scenes, no idea if cut scees were fixed after I last played though.

Then it lists 105 as playable, though remember these ratings are based on the deck, so if it does things like show keyboard prompts or requires manually inputting text it gets put in the category even though that wouldn't matter for desktop users. Well, steam shows 90 of my games as verified, and from those everything I played (which is not all of them) worked ootb. Where Apple for instance and even Microsoft, they realized the importance of developers and application ecosystems and they go extra miles at making developing apps for their platforms ridiculously easy. This in turn make most developers feel like it's a chore to support or even develop apps for linux.

Multiple display servers, multiple gui toolkits, multiple software distribution mechanisms. MacOS also excels at audio, CoreAudio is just very well done, now pipewire on linux is providing a similar if not better solution which is very nice.Īll in all I think what's killing desktop linux is reinventing the wheel over and over again. Another strong point of macOS is the overall quality of applications and application ecosystem. I use linux as my daily but I also used macOS mainly before switching and macOS does scaling perfectly, one slider and you're done, apps aren't dpi aware and mostly don't need to deal with dpi that much. I would expect windows users to understand this because we've all heard a macgay claiming they're incapable of switching to windows and how dramatic and stupid they sound but for some reason the windowgay isn't that self aware.ĭon't bother convincing pure linux users about these details because for most the answer will be "looks fine to me" because they haven't seen better and are accustomed to dealing with the quirks. The way windows works doesn't just come naturally to people they just don't realize they've learned it. But people whine saying they shouldn't have to master their OS but they don't realize they spent their entire youth doing this with Windows. Once you learn about and adjust to Linux it can go very smoothly.

People spend their entire lives learning windows, and they get it in their heads that certain things are "computer" things instead of realizing it's specific to their software so then they try another OS that functions differently and they feel it works "wrong". It's also unironically a skill issue for some people. It's tradeoffs and we all value different things while using a computer. You can list Linux cons but ignoring all the positives and ignoring all the negatives of windows is moronic. People will always be more comfortable with the negatives they're already living with rather than new negatives.
